In the kitchen, sweet chestnuts cooked or fried are gentle on the stomach and help with good digestion.

The peeled chestnuts must be boiled, steamed or roasted before eating. Cut the bitter-tasting brown peel crosswise and then place the fruit in boiling water or in the hot oven for a few minutes. Roasting or cooking causes the scored pieces to split apart. Now let it cool down a little, but the fruit still needs to be hot so that the brown outer shell and the inner light yellow skin can be removed. After about 20 minutes, the roasted chestnuts are cooked. They are good fillings for poultry, they can be pressed into rice and used as a dessert, they are an accompaniment to meat or vegetable dishes, pie filling or jam. When ground into flour, they are an ingredient in pancakes or in fine dough.

Bach flower, Sweet Chestnut: The flower of the sweet chestnut is the 30th flower of the traditional Bach flowers. It is the flower essence in times of complete despair, when people believe that there is no way they can go on. Anyone who feels isolated from their environment, no longer has hope, is faced with situations that cause fear (loss of a partner, job, etc.) can regain hope with this flower.

Hildegard von Bingen: If you have pain in your liver, crush the seeds and put them in honey and eat them often with this honey and your liver will heal.
