Black cumin (Bunium persicum) is a close relative of mother cumin, not to be confused with black cumin (Nigella).


In the kitchen, cumin is popular in Mediterranean countries. Before use it is dry roasted so that the taste is more intense. It is used in couscous dishes, vegetables, minced meat, stews and chili con carne. It can be eaten whole or powdered in dishes. The taste is sharp and somewhat bitter.
