The Canadian goldenrod is a perennial plant and can grow to a height of between 50 and 250 cm. The stem leaves are lanceolate and serrated in the front area. The underside of the leaves and stems are densely protruding and short-haired, the latter later becoming glabrous at the base. On the upper side of the panicle branches it forms numerous, one-sided, clearly stalked yellow flower bodies. The panicle branches are arched. The flowering period is from August to October.

🛑 Caution is advised if you have chronic kidney disease, so it should not be used.

The Canadian goldenrod can be confused with the, usually smaller, giant goldenrod (Solidago gigantea). This has a bare stem until just below the inflorescence, while the Canadian goldenrod is hairy from the area of the first leaves at the latest.

The whole plant can be used for dyeing. Its color ranges from brown-yellow to golden.
